THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 15).

THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 15).

Psalm 18. Verses 7 – 11 read

Then the earth shook and trembled; also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, And fire out of his mouth devoured: Coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also and came down: And darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub and did fly: Yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

God comes the way of men with a covenant relationship. It takes a good response from men to realize the establishment of this covenant. In simple terms, covenant means that men will dedicate themselves to the worship and service of God, whilst God dedicates himself to the wellbeing and success of men in their earthly lives. To those who show commitment to God in covenant, God intervenes in their lives in very spectacular manner. This is what today’s text highlights concerning David. Yesterday, we discussed the challenging situations David was confronted with and how he called upon God to intervene. However, Today’s text reveals part of the powerful interventions God brought to him. Scripture enumerates in detail God’s reaction to David’s call, and by extension, the response he gives to the call of the covenant children of his:

  1. The earth shook and trembled, the hills moved and were shaken. By this, God was saying that all human and demonic establishments will shake when he responds to the call of his covenant child.
  2. Fire went out of his nostrils, devouring fire out of his mouth, and coals were kindled by it. These manifestations were indicative of God’s fury because a covenant child was under the siege of evil.
  3. God bowed the heavens and came down, with darkness under his feet. This speaks of the divine rescue mission he embarked upon because a covenant child was under attack.
  4. God rode on a cherub and flew upon the wings of the wind. This was a manifestation of God’s sovereignty. All things are subject to him, including the angels and the wind.
  5. God made darkness his secret place, and his pavilion was dark. This was indicative of God’s reign even in the midst of darkness. Yes, all forms of darkness and evil are subject to God, the creator of both darkness and light.

Why would God react in this manner because of one man? It was only because a covenant child of his had called upon him in his affliction. That is to say, this is the privilege enjoyed by those who seek and get intimate with God. He moves supernaturally in their favour. To conclude, this is the offer God extends to all believers. It is ours for grabbing.
