THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 16).

THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 16).

Psalm 18. Verses 13 – 17 read:

The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; Hail stones and coals of fire. Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; And he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them. Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, At the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. He sent from above, he took me, He drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: For they were too strong for me.

Men who are in the pursuit of God open themselves for God’s spectacular experiences. Today, we want to consider some more mind blowing interventions God brought in response to the cry of his covenant child, David.

  1. The Lord thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice. The thundering was the sound of God’s judgement, and his voice represents his final verdict regarding the matter at stake. God passes judgement against acts of wickedness against his covenant children.
  2. God released hailstones and coals of fire. These are signs of God at war. This is similar to how God intervened in Israel’s battle against the Amorites under the command of Joshua in Joshua 10 verses 11 and 12. These are manifestations of spiritual warfare.
  3. God sent his arrows and scattered the enemy forces. This represents a divine takeover of the battle. At that point, the battle had left the realm of mortals to the realm of the immortal God. It was between the Most High God and the satanic forces at work against David.
  4. God shot out lightnings and discomfited David’s opponents. In other words, God embarrassed the opponents of David. They were blinded by the lightnings and were put to shame.

Scripture uses some figurative language to throw light on the spectacular moves of God. David explains that at the rebuke of the enemy by the Lord, the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered. This was accompanied by the blast of the breath of God’s nostrils. I believe that the Lord opened the eyes of David to see these supernatural manifestations. Beloved, when the Creator of the world is in operation, the mysteries of the creation are laid bare.

With such outstanding moves, David says that he was delivered from his strong enemy and from those who hated him. God is still in the business of rescuing men who are faithful to their covenant with him. In their times of crisis, such men turn nowhere but unto God. God intervenes in their affairs because the craving of their hearts is none other but God.
