Hebrews 11. Verse 13 read:
These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
We want to build on the discussion we commenced yesterday regarding the spirit of faith. Today’s text reveals some vital points about faith that ran through the lives of virtually all the heroes of faith who were mentioned in the eleventh chapter of the book of Hebrews. Scripture indicates that all these heroes died without attaining the promises God made them. It is important to put this statement in the right perspective. The promises of God to men can be put in two broad categories. The first category relates to promises or prophecies that are destined to be fulfilled during the life of its recipients. The second category relates to promises and prophecies whose fulfillment transcends the life of the recipients.
The responsibility of every believer or the recipient of the promises or prophecies is to believe God to fulfill the words that relate to his life and generation. He must also prepare the next generation to lay hold on the declarations that transcends his generation. In this way, the believer is able to impact his generation and also lay a solid foundation for posterity. Scripture says that even though the heroes of faith did not experience the promises that transcended their generation, they could see them afar off. This is what we want to describe as the vision of faith. Men of faith do not only see in the natural. They are also able to see what God is revealing in the spirit.
The ability to see the vision of faith does numerous things in the life of the believer. Some of which are:
- It provides high-level certainty about what the future holds.
- With the vision clearly defined, the recipient is able to stay focused.
- It inspires hope and becomes the driving force of the recipient of the vision.
Many claim to be walking in faith but are oblivious of what God is revealing. It takes a man who operates in the spirit to see what God is revealing. According to Revelation 4 verse 1, when God wanted to reveal deeper mysteries of his purpose to Apostle John on the Island of Patmos, he said to him:
“…….Come up hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter.”
The vision of faith makes men share in God’s perspective of issues and, by extension, partake of the victory that comes by faith. Death can not stop the vision of faith. The recipient of the vision may die, but the vision will live on because someone dared to envision it. According to Habbakuk 2 verse 3, at the appointed time, the vision will speak and not lie.
