LIVING BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. (Part 18).

Romans 8 Verses 14-17 read:

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

The Holy Spirit does not only seek an abode in man. Beyond that, he desires to drive the activities of our lives to manifest God’s glory. He is not a dormant or inactive spirit. He is the driving force who expresses christ-likeness in and through men. According to today’s text, as many as are led by the spirit of God are the sons of God. The leadership of the spirit does not come to men through duress but through the willingness of men to follow the Holy Spirit. Thus, the leadership of the spirit requires the active participation of man as a follower. It is in this partnership that a man’s sonship to the Heavenly Father is affirmed.

Apostle Paul elaborates on the nature and operation of the Holy Spirit, whom the believer has received. He is not a spirit who puts men into the bondage of fear. Rather, he is the spirit of adoption who extends to men the acceptance into sonship. We used to be alienated from God, but through adoption, we now share in the rights of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. This spirit of adoption manifests as a crying spirit, which speaks of a call of dependence. In the school of the Holy Spirit, one of the fundamental lessons to learn is the lesson of dependence on God. Here, we see the beautiful picture of the leadership of the Holy Spirit in man. He first creates in man acceptance that draws him into sonship, and then he draws him into depending solely on God, the Father.

One of the primary ways of expressing dependence is through crying. Spiritually speaking, this cry refers to prayer. Prayer is a fundamental proof of a man’s dependence on God. The next thing the Holy Spirit does in driving our lives is that he gives us inner attestation. Scripture says that the Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirits that we are the sons of God. In the varied and numerous distressing bombardments of life, the Holy Spirit confirms to our spirits that we are the sons of God. This attestation gives the believer a sense of belonging to God and the assurance of care and security.

The leadership of the spirit involves an amazing package of spiritual activities, and from today’s text, we see its fundamental coverage as follows:

  1. He facilitates our adoption or our acceptance as the sons of God.
  2. He ushers us into dependence on God through the spirit of prayer.
  3. He gives us inner assurance that we are sons of God. This is the assurance of the relationship of care and security he extends to us. SHALOM 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
