LIVING BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. (Part 19).
Romans 8 Verses 14-17 read:
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
Yesterday, we considered the fundamental activities the Holy Spirit takes a man who is under his leadership through. These are:
- Acceptance. This is seen in the spirit of adoption, which the Holy Spirit ignites in men to create in them a sense of belonging to God and establish the father-son relationship between them and God.
- Dependence: This is seen in the extension of a spirit that cries Abba Father to man. It is through this spirit that the dependence of man on God the Father through prayer is established.
- Attestation: This is seen in how the Holy Spirit confirms or agrees with the spirit of a man that, he is the child of God. This confirmation extends to men, the assurance of God’s presence even in challenging times.
By virtue of the spirit of adoption, which accords men the sonship relationship towards God the Father, men become heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. As heirs of God, believers have unrestrained access to the treasury of God’s unlimited resources in the package of salvation. In this package is captured forgiveness of sin, healing, deliverance, prosperity, and wholeness. As long as the believer reaches out in faith, these divine resources will be made available to him.
As joint heirs with Christ, men have access to the resources of God up to the measure to which Jesus had access during his incarnation. In other words, men can express the miraculous heavenly life to the glory of God just as Jesus did whilst on earth. The life Christ exhibited reveals two aspects of a life that is under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. These are suffering and glorification. Under the school of the leadership of the Holy Spirit, believers will be taken through programs in suffering and glorification as part of God’s purpose for their lives. Suffering produces men who are tried and tested and are therefore spiritually guided in the way they handle the issues of life. Glorification expresses the beauty and glow of God on men, which attracts others to a glorious life in Christ. Beloved, the best of a man is seen when he is led by the Holy Spirit.
