THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 7).
Psalms 42. Verses 3 & 4 read
My tears have been my meat day and night, While they continually say unto me, Where is thy God? When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: For I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, With the voice of joy and praise, With a multitude that kept holyday.
A soul that is at rest in God is one of the greatest blessings a man can enjoy. This does not come cheap. It is attained through a strong craving for God, and the outcome is inner satisfaction. Jesus rightly said in Mark 8 verses 36 & 37 that:
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
It is obvious from these verses that a saved soul is worth far more than anything this world can offer. A victorious soul is one that passionately craves for and encounters God. One common sign of craving to attract attention in infants is crying. Where the tears of a man’s cry become his meat, it means that through his crying or craving, he obtains inner satisfaction, which nothing material can offer.
David says that in challenging times, godless men ask, “Where is your God? Such inditing questions must serve as motivation for us to seek God. At the remembrance of such unpalatable words, which “discredit” our covenant with God, David poured out his soul to the Lord. Such outpouring frees the human soul of hurts, bitterness, disappointments, and other unhealthy emotional expressions and pave the way for God’s presence and inner serenity.
Suddenly, the feeling of the divine encounter comes through to man. He feels like being in the midst of a multitude of worshippers in the house of God, with resounding joy and praise in a holy convocation. Beloved, with a strong craving for God, we can switch from the arena of the tears of helplessness to the realm of unspeakable joy. The choice is ours to make.
