PRAISE YE THE LORD.(PART 6)

PRAISE YE THE LORD. (Part 6)

Psalm 148. Verses 1‭-‬5 read

“Praise ye the Lord . Praise ye the Lord from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the Lord : for he commanded, and they were created.”

The call unto praise continues unabated because praise is the duty of all creation. Every created thing owes the creator praise. Today’s text calls for praise from all realms of creation as well as all kinds of created things. Each and every moment, praise must arise from the different quarters of creation unto the Almighty God.

Today, the psalmist calls on created things to give praise to God, the Creator. The expanse and diversity of creation points to the greatness of God. The psalmist begins with the general statement, “Praise ye the Lord.” He then specifically calls on the heavens and the heights to praise the Lord. Everything within this realm must celebrate their Creator. This is how Psalm 19 verse 1 beautifully describes how creatures of heavens render their praise to God. It says:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”

Next, the Psalmist calls on the angelic and heavenly hosts to praise the Lord. Revelations 4 verses 9-10 illustrate how the angels and twenty-four elders celebrate the Most High around his throne as follows:

“And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, the four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,”

The psalmist also calls on the heavenly lights, namely, the sun, the moon, and stars to praise the Lord. Anytime we see these luminaries give off their lights in the heavens, they also render praise to the Creator. Finally, the psalmist calls on the waters above the heavens to praise the Lord. Whenever rain pours on the earth, it is indicative of the praise from the waters above the firmament. Yes, from the different realms of God’s creation, praise ascends in very distinct ways to create a habitation for the Lord.
