PRAISE YE THE LORD. (Part 15)
Psalm 113. Verses 1-6 read:
Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord, you his servants; praise the name of the Lord. Let the name of the Lord be praised, both now and forevermore. From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets, the name of the Lord is to be praised. The Lord is exalted over all the nations, his glory above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?
As we bring this series to an end today, the psalmist calls all servants of God to praise the Lord. Servants owe their Master, in this case God, the duty of honour and the ascribing to him, his worth. In so doing, men retain and sustain God’s presence to their own advantage. The psalmist calls on men to praise the name of the Lord both now and forevermore. Simply put, men must praise God now, praise him in the unknown tomorrow, and as long as we have breath.
Scripture says that “From the rising of the sun to the setting of the same, the name of the Lord is to be praised. Beloved praise must be our all-day devotion to the Lord; nothing must halt our praise. The psalmist continues with the statement, “The Lord is exalted over all the nations, and his glory above the heavens.” This statement highlights God’s supremacy over all nations. Nations and kingdoms are subject to God’s person, greatness, and majesty. Again, God’s glory is far above the heavens.
Figuratively, the psalmist asks a question and shares some valuable insights that have the power to draw men into the depths of praise to God. He asks:
- Who is like our God? And the answer is that there is none like him. He operates in a matchless class.
- Our God is the one who sits enthroned on high. The highest heights to which no one can ascend is where God is enthroned.
- Our God stooped down to look on the heavens and the earth. It is in God’s nature to identify in detail with his creation; in this case, the heaven and the earth.
Everything about God; his nature, and his operations all elicit praise from men. A revelation of these put men in the place where they have no choice but to praise God. Beloved, in the equation of life, the absence of the factor of praise leads to staleness, dryness, and defeat. It is incumbent on men to give the factor of praise its rightful place in our lives to establish victory in our lives.
