LIVING BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. (Part 31).

Isaiah 11. Verses 1-3 read:

And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: and the Spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD; and shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

We are continuing with our discussion on the Holy Spirit’s operation in Jesus Christ. This study is necessary in helping us obtain the kind of results Jesus obtained during his earthly ministry. The manifestations of the Holy Spirit discussed in our last two lessons, based on today’s text, establish the supremacy of the Holy Spirit over every other spirit. It is, therefore, no wonder that Jesus demonstrated mastery over Satan and his demonic agents. In like manner, believers who will arise and manifest the virtues mentioned in today’s text will establish their supremacy over Satan and his forces.

In addition to manifesting these virtues, Prophet Isaiah predicts that owing to the presence of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus:

  1. He shall be quick of understanding in the fear of the Lord: This describes a spirit of accurate and spontaneous discernment that is operated in deep reverence to God. It is common these days to find men who operate spiritual gifts in pride, arrogance, and self exaltation and without reverence to God. This is contrary to biblical standards and an insult to the work of grace. Men who acknowledge grace will always revere the Lord in all they do, including their service to God . During his incarnation, Jesus discharged his ministry with total honour and reverence to God. Refer to Hebrews 5 verse 7.
  2. He shall not judge after the sight of his eye: In other words, the verdicts of Christ on issues would not be based on physical observation. He saw beyond the physical unto the invisible forces or reasons driving visible actions or occurrence.
  3. He shall not reprove after the hearing of his ears: Jesus’ actions were premised on words heard in the spirit. He corrected things based on what he heard in the spirit. Beyond physical sounds, he was tuned to the voice of the spirit.

The above-mentioned issues are the reasons underlying Jesus’ accuracy and potency in the discharge of his ministry. Those who seek an impactful ministry that will bless their generation and leave indelible marks for posterity must follow this pattern of operation.
