Romans 8. Verses 5-6 read:

Romans 8. Verses 5-6 read:

” For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

Many men see the law of God as some unattainable demands that are aimed at inflicting punishment on men, who fail to comply with them. As a result, there are people who perceive God as a hard taskmaster who only punishes wrongdoing. Far from that; God is gracious, merciful, and unwilling to see men die in their sinful ways. If men switch from living by the power of the flesh to living by the help of the Holy Spirit through God’s bountiful supply of grace, the righteous requirements of the law will be fulfilled in them. The law actually distinguishes between right and wrong to save men from the destructive consequences of wrongdoing.

Today’s text is very clear on how to distinguish between a spiritual man and a carnal man. The primary difference between them is that the spiritual man is spirit driven, whilst the carnal man is driven by his selfish human instincts. Beloved, a man’s thoughts point to his identity. A spiritual man is one who focuses his mind on the things that flow from God. It is the Holy Spirit controlled mindset that drives his actions and utterances to reveal God’s nature.

On the other hand, the carnal man focuses his mind on that which gratifies his lustful or selfish desires. The result is a life that is at variance with God’s standards. The danger of living by the flesh is that it leads to sin and death. God frowns on the works of the flesh because they lead to both spiritual death, that is, separation from the life of God and eternal death, that is, destruction in hell fire.

According to scripture, maintaining a spiritual mind produces life and peace. Refer to Isaiah 26 verse 3. In this context, peace refers to divine tranquillity that keeps a man at rest, even in the most turbulent storms. Oh, that we would deny the flesh its ungodly desires and be completely tuned to the Holy Spirit’s frequency so that Christ will be revealed in us. It is time for the men of the spirit to arise and shine.
