PRAISE YE THE LORD.(PART 9)

PRAISE YE THE LORD. (Part 9)

Psalms 149. Verses 5-9 read

“Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand; to execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; to bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; to execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the Lord.”

The psalmist continues with his exhortation on how men ought to praise God. He calls on the saints to be joyful in their celebration of God. A heart of joy must be a feature of every true praise. The psalmist admonishes that men should sing aloud on their beds. In other words, even in the resting posture, the heart of the saint must pulsate with God’s praise.

Whilst praise exalts the Lord, it is also a very potent weapon against anything that stands in opposition against God and His purpose. Why so? It is because when praise is raised, God is enthroned, and the enemy forces have no choice but to scatter. For this reason, the psalmist calls on the saints to let the high praises of God be in their mouth and the double-edged sword in their hands. This is the spiritual posture of men and women of praise; their praise extols the Lord on one hand and subdues the forces of darkness on the other hand.

The psalmist highlights the havoc praise causes the kingdom of darkness. It executes vengeance upon the heathen or the godless ones who obstruct the purpose of God. Through the power of praise, God releases punishment on all forms of spiritual lawlessness. Praise binds authorities and the rulers of darkness and restrains them from performing their wicked enterprises.

In praise, the judgement of God is activated against evil forces. This is very supernatural, and we serve a God who goes to war amidst the praise of his saints. In a praise filled environment, victories are the norm. In praise, the documented judgement of God against evil is executed. Paul and Silas employed the power of praise to demolish the restrictions and fetters of jail into liberty. King Jehoshaphat and the children of Judah also used the high praises of God to defeat the host that rose against God’s people. Having understood the dual operation of the spirit of praise, let us resolve to continually celebrate our God. By so doing, we silence every foe.
