THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 2).
Psalm 63. Verses 3&4 read:
“Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.”
The intensity of a man’s quest for God has a direct bearing on the measure of his insight about God. Through his wilderness experience, which was characterized by moments of loneliness, persecution, and rejection, David came to a revelation of God’s lovingkindness, which is a combination of the care and benevolence God extends to men. From today’s text, David says of God that “…thy lovingkindness is better than life….”. Without discounting the gift of life, we must understand that life finds its true meaning within the confines of God’s love. Life without a sense of God’s love leaves men in a state of emptiness and dryness. God’s love is a prerequisite for meaningful living.
Thankfully, God’s love is extended to all men without discrimination. However, we become full beneficiaries of this love through our revelation of who God is. In Romans 8 verses 38-39, Apostle Paul explains how inseparable the believer’s life is from the love of God as follows:
“For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Like David, Apostle Paul confidently affirms how God’s love would see him through the myriad of ordeals life and ministry may bring. The tenderness of God’s love creates an environment that safeguards our lives from cruel life situations.
As a result of his profound revelation of God’s love, David could praise and bless God all through his wilderness experience. The revelation of God’s love can equally be the key to the turnaround of our wilderness experiences if we also long deeply for God. Let’s live each and every day with a revelation of God’s unfailing love. In conclusion, I pray that we will share in the blessings of the prayer of Apostle Paul for the Ephesian Church recorded in Ephesians 3 verse 19 as follows:
“…..And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.”
In our quest for God, we are first drawn into his love by revelation, and in God’s love, we discover the real essence of life. God’s lovingkindness paves the way for the experience of real life.
