THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 19).
Psalm 84. Verses 7 – 9 read:
They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God. O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer: Give ear, O God of Jacob. Selah. Behold, O God our shield, And look upon the face of thine anointed.
From the account of the sons of Korah in the eighty-fourth chapter of the book of Psalm, we understand that man is on assignment in this hostile terrain called earth, with the mandate to make impact according to the will of God, and transit into God’s presence, which is the eternal home that God has ordained for those who order their lives according to his precepts. This journey demands that men stay focused on God’s presence and remain ever connected to God through a deep quest for him. Beloved, it takes discipline to successfully journey to the destined end.
The entirety of earthly life can be seen as Baca, the place of pain, and anguish when compared to the heavenly destination prepared by God for his faithful children. Taking inspiration from the glory of the heavenly destination, men go from strength to strength untill they appear before the Lord in Zion, the abode of God. They derive this strength from waiting upon the Lord. Isaiah 40 verse 31 says that those who wait upon the Lord renew their strength, and they never go weary. Fellowship with God keeps men away from a life of fainting or despair.
Men on this journey know how to call upon the Lord for assistance. They call on the Most High to hear their prayers and give ear to them. It takes men who stay true to their covenant with God to pray in this manner. They call on the Lord as their shield to protect them from the wiles of the evil one. Due to their intimacy with God, they call on him to pay attention to his anointed one. Beloved, the benefits of having a quest for God are numerous. By it, the sons of Korah experienced God’s power and presence. It is our time to experience these benefits as we also embark on our earthly pilgrimage. The means to this experience is fellowship with God.
