LIVING BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. (Part 1).

LIVING BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. (Part 1).

Genesis 2 Verse 7 reads:

And the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life and man became a living creature.

The place of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer is so critical that it can not be compromised for anything else. The Holy Spirit is the person of the triune God who is actively at work on earth to enable men to fulfill the purpose of God. Without him, no one can live according to God’s standards. Developing a relationship with the Holy Spirit and living by his enabling power is, therefore, a must for all men, lest our lives will stay at variance with God’s standards. It is for this reason that we want to consider this subject as we commence a new year.

In looking at this subject, we want to consider how man came into existence. According to today’s text, man was formed from the dust of the earth, and God breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. The breath or spirit of God, which was transferred from God to man, represents the power of God by which man is expected to live. The breath man received was the breath of life. It empowers man to manifest God in character and operation.

Beloved, it is God’s will that the actions and utterances of man will be driven by the indwelling Holy Spirit so that man would reflect God. Adam, the first man, lost the power to live by the Holy Spirit through disobedience. Thankfully, Jesus came in as a quickening spirit to restore man to the place of living by the power of the Holy Spirit. Refer to 1 Corinthians 15 verse 45.

As the quickening spirit, the presence of Christ in the life of a man awakens the power and workings of the spirit in man. John 1 verse 12 says that, as many as received Christ, to them, Christ gave the power to become the sons of God.

This capacity to manifest sonship, which is also the manifestation of Christ’s person and operation, comes by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:14 testifies that “As many as are led by the spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Brethren, it is when we rely on the spirit of God to live our daily lives that we produce evidence that we are the sons of God. The sure way to please God is to live by the power of the Holy Spirit.
