LIVING BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. (Part 16).

Romans 8 Verses 10-11 read:

But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

The presence of the Holy Spirit in man is a great mystery, which unfolds with time as a man develops intimacy with the Holy Spirit. According to today’s text, it is the presence of Christ in the believer that opens him up to the Holy Spirit. As a result of sin, every man’s physical body is subject to death. Yes, the physical human body is headed for death because where sin is, death is inevitable. However, for the believer, the indwelling Holy Spirit gives his spirit life because of righteousness. This means that where the Holy Spirit reigns, righteousness, and life also reign.

It was through the quickening operation of the Holy Spirit that the mortal remains of Christ were brought back to life. If indeed this same Holy Spirit is resident in us, then this Spirit, which is from God, will give life to our mortal bodies. This is the secret behind the miracle of supernatural or divine healing. The quickening power of the Holy Spirit activates life in the bodies of men to establish healing. An increase in diseases is usually associated with old age. As people age, body organs wane in their strength, body immunity reduces, and they become more susceptible to sicknesses and diseases. At this stage, a strong spirit is able to sustain the human body in sound health. Proverbs 17 verse 22 says:

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: But a broken spirit drieth the bones.

A merry heart is one that is subject to the quickening operations of the Holy Spirit, and it is compared to medication that administers healing. Still based on the operations of the Holy Spirit in the human body, Apostle Paul said in 2 Corinthians 4 verse 16 that:

…….but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.

Yes, physical strength wanes and body weakness sets in with age. However, the inward man is renewed by the Holy Spirit on a daily basis to sustain the body in good health. God is interested in the soundness of our health, and he has given his Holy Spirit to assist in this regard.
