THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Psalm 63. Verses 5-7 read:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips: When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The soul is the intangible part of man, which the Holy Spirit quickens or makes alive when it is submitted to God. The soul is a key player in man’s quest for God. The soul is made up of the mind, the will, and emotion. The mind is a man’s seat of remembrance, thought, and imagination. The will is the seat of a man’s decisions and choices, and the emotion is the seat of his feelings or longings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The soul has a strong affinity for identification and allegiance. When the longing of the soul is misdirected, it becomes saddled with ungodly passions that draw men away from God. On the other hand, when the soul is rightly directed, it craves for God and the things God offers. The soul is impacted either positively or negatively by what the natural human senses of sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste transmit to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The conditions of the wilderness naturally communicate hopelessness discouragement, despair, and defeat to the soul, but David refused to succumb to these negative elements. With the right soul setting, David craved for God and received inner rest, peace, and contentment, which resulted in the outflow of praise to God. A satisfied soul is bound to pour forth praise to God regardless of the unpleasantness of the wilderness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A rightly tuned soul, one that craves for God, remembers and meditates on the wonderful deeds of the Lord. It is by this means that thoughts and imaginations are sanitized and kept pure. Again, a rightly tuned soul produces joy. As the shepherd of our lives, the Lord is in the business of restoring our souls. Refer to Psalm 23 verse 3. In this restoration program, God cleanses our souls of harmful cravings, heals its wounds, hurts, bitterness, etc. and liberates the soul to freely relate to God and be able to bless fellowmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Undoubtedly, wilderness experiences are bound to come. However, triumphing over them is the preserve of souls that are inclined to God. Such souls long for God and are only satisfied with God’s peace and joy. In our craving for God, our souls shall be refreshed in every wilderness situation we encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
