THE QUEST FOR GOD (Part 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Psalm 63. Verses 1& 2 read:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is; To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Whereas God is available to all men, an individual’s quest for him determines how much of God he would encounter and what his experience with God would be. Men who have deep longing for God come to the realisation of God’s overwhelming presence and power. This series will focus on how, through a strong passion for God, men can encounter him. Psalm 63 was written by David during his wandering in the wilderness while King Saul was after his life. In this psalm, David expresses his desperate longing for God and for God’s will for his life. Wildernesses present very unpleasant experiences. However, through these experiences, men are brought to their utter helplessness and eventually drawn into intimacy with God.There are great opportunities within the daily challenges we are confronted with to know the Lord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the opening statement of today’s text, David places emphasis on his personal relationship with God. It is not enough to know God as the God of all humanity. Beyond that, we must know him as our God. Thus, we must have a personal relationship with God that is founded on a right response to the covenant he extends to us. Subsequently, David pledges to seek God early. The only way to find God is to seek Him. David chooses to do so early when there is minimal or no activity. This gave him the opportunity to focus properly on God and engage him without disturbance or interference. Beloved, wisdom demands that we seek the Lord early before the activities of daily life begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
David’s unpleasant conditions in the wilderness brought him to the point where everything within him desperately longed for God; his soul craved for God, his flesh longed for God as one in a dry and thirsty land. The conditions in the wilderness were hostile to a life of comfort. However, David’s longing and affection were rightly directed to God, who alone could refresh his soul and body and also turn his desert into a fertile and blossoming land. Yes, it is only God who can do this. Always remember that a strong longing for God is one of the means by which unpleasant conditions and locations are turned around for the better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The goal of David’s quest was for him to see God’s power and glory in his life. As a result, he came into the experience of God’s sanctuary right within the unpleasant situations of the wilderness. Beloved, our deep quest for God can create a godly atmosphere within hostile conditions. We must master the art of creating God’s sanctuary within our wilderness. This is how we can blossom or flourish even in unpleasant situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
